Ever meet someone who might take a bit longer to get the punchline of a joke? That's often me. Also, sometimes it takes me a while to realise where sayings come from.
Today, at the grand old age of thirty-two I realised how the term 'birthday suit' relates to being naked. On account of the being born naked.
It's not like I didn't know how to use the term - I knew it meant naked and not pink, wrinkly and covered in womb yoghurt.

Womb youghurt? Eewwww. Been waiting to use that one, haven't you?
The real name for it (vernix caseosa) translates as cheesy varnish.
I'm figuring out all of the chicken related ones, "pecking order, " "hen pecked," "chickens come home to roost," "cocksure," and perhaps some more I'm not thinking of. They're all literal in the same sense as the birthday suit. The chickens come home to roost doesn't quite make sense, because chickens come home to roost every single night, but when "the chickens come home to roost," it's years and years later. The rest are just as you think, I guess.
I'm hoping to soon figure out what "going cold turkey" has to do with turkeys!
